IIRC, VW engineers supposedly don't consider an ALH TDI engine to have high miles on it until 500k miles. That's when it has reached half of its rated life. The engine will easily go the distance, provided it has been maintained properly and nothing takes it it out early. How long can a properly maintained TDI engine last? For the diesel engines, an inline four 1.9 Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI), and the inline five (R5) 2.5 TDI (103 kW (140 PS; 138 bhp)) were available. Until 1997, the A6 came with several different engines, two of them turbodiesel , and most of them available with Audi's Torsen -based quattro permanent four-wheel-drive system.

I think heads start to show wear (valve guides and seals, and sometimes cams) at 250-300K, lower end can run past 400K without problems.

Car is runing 14month taking part in small slalom amateur league championship, no problem from the engine, problems in transmision witch is not holding huge nm
